The Future of University Swimming

Who are we?

The British University Swimming League (BUSL) is a fun, friendly yet competitive university swimming league born out of the National University Development League and working together with other student-run swimming leagues across the country.

In keeping with our rebrand, we are proud to announce a fresh and innovative format which aims to give swimmers from across the country numerous opportunities to race throughout the year in duel-meet style galas, larger traditional galas and a National Final.

The British University Swimming League is run entirely by students, united by the ambition to improve university swimming. As students ourselves we know the challenges faced by clubs at present and are confident our new format will both supplement the current fixture program provided by BUCS and be affordable for all.

FUN

Our events allow swimmers to do what they do best, swim. The meets themselves are fast-paced, lasting for 1-2 hours. Expect to see an interesting program of events with various 'bonus' events on offer including skins, mixed relays and canons thrown in to complement the more standard events.

INCLUSIVE

There is no such thing as a 'standard of swimmer' for the BUSL. We are a low stakes competition and ultimately you decide how your club treats this. Previously, on a single team we have had a former Commonwealth Games athlete, a swimmer making a return to the sport after a long period of injury and a swimmer from the clubs recreational team competing for the first time. The BUSL is about racing as a team and enjoying it, that being said should you wish to select your strongest team possible and go for the win, we won't stop you.

AFFORDABLE

We are a league for students, ran entirely by students. Conferences will be local to reduce travel costs and for the first phase of racing we are encouraging hosting teams to use their already existing training time so whilst there will be costs, we expect these to be minimal. This is it, as we are are aiming to increase participation and not turn huge profits on events.
