Swimmers, Staches & Smugglers: The BUSL Movember Challenge is On!

This November, the British University Swimming League is teaming up with Budgy Smuggler UK to make waves for men’s health — because it’s time to talk, grow, and give back.

We all know Movember for the moustaches — but behind the facial hair lies a movement that’s changing (and saving) lives. Movember funds vital work in men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Every conversation, every laugh, and every pound raised helps support men across the world — including those in our own swim community.

Why Movember Matters — Especially in Swimming

Swimming demands discipline, resilience, and long hours of silent training — but that same quiet intensity can make it easy to struggle in silence too.

Many male athletes face huge pressure to perform, stay strong, and “get on with it.” But mental health challenges don’t disappear just because we can hold our breath. In fact, for many, the pool can sometimes feel like the only place they can let go.

That’s why BUSL is proud to support Movember — to break the stigma, start conversations, and remind everyone that real strength is asking for help. Men’s health matters in every lane of the pool, and this is our chance to show it.

The BUSL x Budgy Smuggler Movember Challenge

We’re calling on every uni swim team across the league to join the BUSL x Budgy Smuggler Movember Challenge — because it’s time to grow, give, and make waves for men’s health.

Here’s how to get involved:

Set up your team’s Movember fundraising page and rally your swimmers, coaches, and friends to donate.
Get creative with your fundraising — think moustache relays, cold-water dips, bake sales, swim-a-thons, or even full-team mo makeovers.
Once you have followed @buswimleague, @budgysmuggleruk and @movember with your University Team account, comment "BUSL🦜" on our Instagram post
Tag all 3 accounts when sharing your team Movember efforts on Instagram so we can see your work, shout you out and pick a winner!

Winners announced 1st of December at 6pm

Prizes Up for Grabs
Thanks to our friends at Budgy Smuggler UK, there’s plenty of motivation to get involved:

The team that raises the most money, or
The team with the most creative fundraiser,

…will win Team bucket hats and/or £20 Budgy Smuggler gift vouchers!

We have 30 hats to giveaway as well as 10 vouchers, so get creative with your campaigns because some of them might be for you!

So whether your squad is growing legendary mo’s, smashing a swim challenge, or pulling off the wildest poolside fundraiser, make sure to tag us — we don’t want to miss a moment of your Movember madness.

Key Date: Winners Announced December 1st

All entries close at the end of November, and we’ll be announcing the winning teams on December 1st.

So grab your smugglers, grow your mo, and dive headfirst into fundraising. Together, we can make a splash for men’s health, support our teammates, and show what the swimming community can do when we rally for something bigger than ourselves.
